Abrasive blasting treatment and process for marine crane structures

Sep 14, 2026

The abrasive blasting treatment of welded components for offshore cranes is a systematic surface preparation process based on ISO8501-1 (DIN55928) as the general baseline, and it must also comply with offshore-specific specifications such as NORSOK M-501. Its core objective is to ensure long-term adhesion and durability of anti-corrosion coatings in harsh marine environments through strict control of cleanliness and roughness.

Before blasting, weld slag, spatter, and weld protrusions on the surface of welded components must be thoroughly removed, and protruding welds must be ground into a smooth transition angle using a grinder.
